This week, the FCA launched a review into the implications of advanced AI on consumers, retail financial markets and regulators. Sheree Howard, Executive Director of Authorisations, also gave a speech at the FCA’s Gateway to growth event, at Chicago Booth London Conference Centre.

This week, the FCA announced that applications are now open for the next round of AI Live Testing. The regulatory also issued a letter to trade associations, detailing the next steps on how to engage in the process of establishing a future entity for open banking. In other news, the FOS published their latest edition of Ombudsman News and BBC News published an article on credit reporting practices and consumer protection.

This week, the FCA has confirmed the total amount of fines so far during 2026. The regulator has also published board minutes from its meeting held on 27 November 2025. In other news, StepChange Debt Charity has confirmed that 5 January 2026 was its busiest day in more than a year. The FOS has also set out ambitious targets for resolving cases in 2026/2027.

This week, the FCA has opened an enforcement investigation into The Claims Protection Agency Limited (TCPA). The Bank of England and The Money Charity have also released their monthly statistics. 

This week, the FCA published a news piece on open banking, stating that 16 million users now benefiting from the service. The regulator is also amending its Code of Conduct (COCON) sourcebook to explain how non-financial misconduct can be a breach of the conduct rules. In other news, the FOS has released it latest edition of Ombudsman News, which covers the organisation’s recent consultation on its plans and budget.

This week, the FCA issued updated expectations to help firms interpret the Consumer Duty where they work together to create products and services. The Bank of England and Money Charity also released their monthly statistics. 

This week, the FCA and PRA jointly launched CP25/33: Regulatory fees and levies: policy proposals for 2026/27 – a consultation on proposed changes to how regulatory fees and levies will be raised from 2026/27. The regulator also announced that three individuals have been arrested due to suspected unauthorised debt activities. 

This week, the FCA published two speeches, its October board minutes and the Statement of Policy on statutory investigations into regulatory failure and producing reports.

This week, the FCA stated that certain types of credit builder products show little evidence of being effective for most consumers. New research from Fair4All Finance shows up to 1.9 million adults in Great Britain have turned to an unlicensed money lender or loan shark in the past twelve months.

This week, the Government launched its long awaited National Financial Inclusion Strategy. The FCA has confirmed it will extend the motor finance compensation scheme consultation. This week, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves MP, has announced the launch of the FCA and Prudential Regulation Authority’s (PRA) Scale-up Unit. In other news, there was a raft of data and statistics. The FCA published its quarterly whistleblowing data and most recent complaints data. The Money Charity released its October statistics. The Bank of England published its September Monday and Credit statistics and the FOS also published its quarterly complaints data.

This week, the FCA responded to the Government’s decision on reforming anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing supervision. The regulator has also given evidence to the House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee as part of its inquiry into how regulators engage with the industries they oversee. The Government has announced plans to strengthen oversight and accountability across the UK’s regulators.
