When I joined the CCTA as Membership Manager, I knew I was stepping into a community with a proud history and an important role in supporting our industry. What I didn’t realise then was just how quickly I would come to feel part of something bigger, a network of people who are passionate about collaboration, learning, and making a difference.

The development of the new Credit Information Governance Body (CIGB) has reached a critical stage, with details now in place for how the model may operate. Over recent weeks, lenders have begun receiving initial information from the Credit Reference Agencies outlining the proposed governance structures, decision-making processes and the path towards subscription contracts.

The 2025 CCTA Annual Conference brought together leaders from across the consumer credit sector for a dynamic day of discussion, learning, and forward-thinking collaboration. Held in Manchester, the event showcased the industry’s response to regulatory change, technological advancement, and the evolving needs of consumers.

This edition of CCTA Magazine focuses on motor finance. If you have read about the scope of the forthcoming redress scheme, you might understand why. But even if you are not in motor finance, I think it is valuable to stop and look at what is happening. The Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) proposed motor finance redress scheme is one of the most significant interventions in consumer credit for more than a decade.

Smaller motor finance lenders are facing the toughest test in years. The FCA’s proposed motor finance redress scheme will reach back almost two decades, affecting millions of old agreements. What I am hearing from many smaller motor lenders is that the number of eligible compensation cases might be very low, but the costs of the scheme could be very high.

Today, the FCA has published its long-awaited consultation on a proposed redress scheme for motor finance commission complaints. At the recent CCTA Annual Conference, the FCA confirmed that the consultation would launch this week – and it’s now live.

However, if change is to last, it must be sustainable for all types of firms. One that also balances the interests of consumers and firms. For the industry, this means designing rules that not only suit the very largest, but also reflect the pressures faced by smaller lenders.
