The past few days have been largely dominated by the Supreme Court’s ruling on the motor finance cases heard earlier this year. The judgment provides welcome clarity in an area that has long been complex and contested, encompassing both motor finance and the broader credit market. That said, several important issues remain and will require further review and discussion. We now know the FCA intends to consult on compensation, which will be a crucial next step.

Supreme Court judgment issued today: Update for members

The Supreme Court will today deliver its highly anticipated judgment on commissions. It is expected to be a significant ruling, as it will serve as the foundation for the FCA’s future work on a possible redress scheme in motor finance. You will recall that they had suggested they would respond within six weeks of the judgment. We can reassure our members that we are here to support them and will be talking to the FCA.

Financial Ombudsman Service: Reform consultations

Following various discussions, I have just received a note from the Chief Ombudsman, which highlights several changes they are now consulting upon. This is happening in conjunction with work with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and HM Treasury.
