Updated version of FCA Enforcement Guide published

The FCA has published the final version of its streamlined and updated Enforcement Guide. As previously announced, the regulator has retained the ‘exceptional circumstances’ test for announcing investigations into regulated and listed firms.

The FCA has appointed Chris Pond as chair of the Financial Services Consumer Panel. Chris will lead the independent panel in providing advice and representing the interests of consumers to help us deliver our strategic priorities.

BoE Statistics
Money and Credit statistics - April

The Bank of England (BoE) has published its latest Money and Credit statistics for the month of April. The key figures highlight that:

  • Net mortgage approvals for house purchases decreased for the fourth consecutive month, with a fall of 3,100 to 60,500 in April. By contrast, approvals for remortgaging increased by 1,600, to 35,300 in April.
  • Net borrowing of consumer credit by individuals was £1.6 billion in April, up from £1.1 billion in the previous month. Within this, net borrowing through credit cards increased to £0.8 billion in April, from £0.4 billion in March. Net borrowing through other forms of consumer credit increased slightly to £0.8 billion, from £0.7 billion over the same period.

The Money Charity Statistics
May 2025 Money Statistics published

The Money Charity has published its statistics for May. The figures highlight that

  • inflation was 3.5%
  • the average credit card debt per UK household was £2,579 in March
  • the total unsecured debt per UK adult was £4,352
  • the total debt, secured and unsecured, per UK household was £66,892.
