FCA Publication: FCA boosts support for innovative firms as they scale and grow

The FCA has published feedback from its review of firms’ plans for implementing the motor finance redress scheme.

It found that while most firms demonstrated a good understanding of the scheme requirements, many plans remained too high-level and lacked sufficient detail on practical delivery. The FCA highlighted areas including operational readiness, identifying affected customers, decision-making, redress calculations and payments, quality assurance, and oversight of third-party arrangements.

FICO News Release: Credit card balances hit record high

FICO’s latest UK credit card data shows average active balances reached a new record high of £1,975 in June, 4.7% higher than a year earlier.

Average spending also increased to £835, while the proportion of balances being repaid fell to 33.3%. The proportion of customers missing one, two and three payments was higher than a year ago, pointing to continued underlying affordability pressures.

Ofgem Data: Energy debt could have reached £6 billion

Energy UK has said publicly that domestic energy debt and arrears may have reached a record £6 billion by the end of June, around £500 million higher than a year earlier. It has warned that the figure could rise further to £7 billion by the end of 2026 if current pressures continue.

The latest estimate builds on Energy UK’s Energy debt: Everyone pays report published earlier this year. That estimated debt and arrears at around £5.5 billion, significantly above the official measure, and warned that the position would continue to deteriorate without coordinated action by government, Ofgem and the industry.
