The FCA is launching a £1 million campaign, letting motor finance customers know they don’t need to use a CMC or law firm to access an industry-wide compensation scheme the regulator is proposing.
The CCTA has welcomed this, but we do wonder whether this will be enough to combat some of the CMC advertising campaigns.

Steve Smart, Joint Executive Director of Enforcement and Market Oversight, gave a speech at the 1LoD Financial Crime Summit. He said that financial crime harms trust, and tackling it is a prerequisite for growth. He added the UK must continue to use its strengths to proactively detect and disrupt harm.
We know that financial crime is a priority for the FCA in their new strategy.

The FCA provides a range of support to help firms that can meet the necessary standards to become FCA authorised or registered. The regulator has shared examples of good practice and areas for improvement from the applications that it has seen.
The CCTA met with one of the directors of authorisation to talk about the experience of our members when it comes to authorisation and changes (like variation of permissions and change of control). We talked about the lack of feedback and engagement in the past. It was good to hear about their commitment to openness.
