TransUnion presented on the emerging trends identifed from the perspective of a CRA. The FCA provided an outline of the team’s work and how best to engage with them. They also updated on how they approach the regulation of CMCs. There was also a chance to discuss other developments on CMCs and an update from CCTA.

CCTA comment on FOS future funding paper

On Tuesday the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) released its long-awaited discussion paper on its future funding model. For some time, we have been engaging with the FOS on its funding model and the burden it places on the alternative lending sector. We have been clear that the organisation needs a more sustainable model moving forward.

CCTA Conference: 2022 presentations

In 2022 the Conference focused on a range of themes including new innovations in lending and how lenders can best serve customers, especially those in difficulty. Delegates also received a presentation from the Illegal Money Lending Unit and a fireside chat with the FOS.

CCTA response to the FOS final plans and budget 2022/23

We are disappointed that the FOS has decided to implement the proposals it consulted on earlier this year, despite the feedback it has received. For some time, we have been talking about the financial pressure our members are under from the current fee structure of the FOS.

CCTA comment on CSJ report on tackling illegal money lending

We welcome this new report and this study into the scale of illegal money lending. Even before the current cost of living crisis, we have talked about the increasing problem of loan sharks and the real pain they cause to families across the UK. It is now estimated that over one million people are relying on illegal lenders.

Activity update: Home-collected credit

Towards the end of 2021, we pushed for the FCA to take a strategic look at what was happening in high-cost credit, with home-collected being the focus of much of the discussions. This led to the launch of a review in the closing days of last year, which involved the FCA speaking to a range of lenders, investors, and trade associations. I know that some of you will be interested in hearing more about what we have said and done. Later in this paper, I have set out some of the messages that we have communicated in more detail.
