This week, the FCA confirmed that they will consult on a motor finance compensation scheme. In a blog post, the FCA also made proposals around AI live testing. The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) announced its interim chair.

FCA to consult on motor finance compensation scheme

Following the ruling by the Supreme Court, the FCA will on consult on how lenders should consistently, efficiently and fairly decide whether motor finance customers are owed compensation and how much.

The consultation will launch by early October. If the compensation scheme goes ahead, the first payments should be made in 2026.

Interim Chair of FOS appointed

Liam Coleman has been appointed interim chair of the FOS. He will take up the role on 10 October 2025.

Liam will chair the Financial Ombudsman’s board until a permanent appointment is made, after the initial recruitment campaign proved unsuccessful.
