Dear CEO letter: Motor finance commission complaints pause consultation outcome

The FCA has written to firms about progressing complaints and the actions they expect firms to take. The regulator has also confirmed it will lift the pause on the handling of motor finance complaints on 31 May 2026. This timeframe enables the FCA to finalise and begin implementing any compensation scheme.

FCA simplifies complaints reporting process

The FCA has confirmed plans to streamline the way firms report complaints to them. The improvements will improve data quality and strengthen consumer protection. Five separate existing complaints returns will be replaced by a single consolidated return.

FOS plans and budget consultation paper

The FOS is consulting on its plans and budget for the next financial year as it continues a reform programme. Budget proposals will see case fees and levies rise for the first time in three years but still remain lower than they were in 2023/24.

Money and Credit statistics – October

The Bank of England (BoE) has published its latest Money and Credit statistics for the month of October. The key figures highlight that:

  • In October, net mortgage approvals for house purchase decreased by 600 to 65,000, while approvals for remortgaging fell by 3,600 to 33,100, the lowest since February 2025 (32,900).
  • Net borrowing of consumer credit by individuals decreased for the second consecutive month, to £1.1 billion in October from £1.4 billion in September. Within this, net borrowing through credit cards slightly decreased, to £0.6 billion from £0.7 billion. Net borrowing through other forms of consumer credit was £0.5 billion in October, down from £0.7 billion in September.

Money Charity Statistics
November statistics published

The Money Charity has published its statistics for November. The figures highlight that:

  • inflation was 3.6%
  • the average credit card debt per UK household was £2,649 in September
  • the total unsecured debt per UK adult was £4,343
  • the total debt, secured and unsecured, per UK household was £66,618.
