Switch-off of current analogue phone network

Industry News | 05/10/21

The switch-off of the current analogue phone network (known as the Public Switched Telephone Network or PSTN has begun and PSTN will be decommissioned completely by the end of 2025.

The switch-off is being led by the telecoms industry and it affects firms (as well as the wider UK). This is a major change to the UK’s telecoms networks and will affect anything that plugs into existing analogue telephone wall sockets currently. The Future Of Voice website (which is hosted by the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG) – the government advisory body on telecommunications) provides information on preparations firms should make to avoid disruption to their services.

The FCA reminded firms of this change in its September Regulation Round-up newsletter. Firms can sign up to the FCA’s Regulation Round Up Newsletter on the FCA website.
