MPs demand answers from City ombudsman over huge backlog of cases

Industry News | 29/01/21

Britain’s financial ombudsman is facing heavy scrutiny from MPs who have expressed concern about its growing backlog of unresolved cases.

The City’s arbiter of financial disputes will shortly be hauled in front of politicians on the Treasury Committee, an influential group of cross-party MPs, for a grilling over falling service standards.

MPs have criticised the running of the Financial Ombudsman Service and questioned the effectiveness of the organisation during the pandemic. Mel Stride MP, chairman of the Treasury Committee, said Covid-19 had caused significant problems and users were suffering major delays.
