Last week, the ICO provided an update on their work around tackling unlawful marketing phone calls and text messages. ICO’s Head of Investigations, Andy Curry, said that such activity was not only unlawful, but causes a breach of privacy and a form of distress. He explained that, through their enforcement activities under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), ICO has issued fines in excess of £2.4million for 2022/23.
