Unite the Union was fined £45,000 for making 57,665 unsolicited direct marketing calls to subscribers who were registered with the TPS.
In the notice issued by the ICO it is clear that Unite insisted that the union’s Rule Book and its commitment to inform members about the benefits available to them trumped the data protection and marketing consent rules. The ICO disagreed.
