First-time buyer and homemover numbers on the up

First-time buyers and home movers both saw steady increases compared to the same time last year in April, figures published by UK Finance today have revealed. The latest monthly Mortgage Trends update showed there were 27,370 new first-time buyer mortgages completed in April 2019, 7.9 per cent more than in the same month in 2018. Meanwhile, 25,450 homemover mortgages were completed in April 2019, 6.4 per cent more than in the same month a year earlier. The buy-to-let house sector saw 5,100 new purchase mortgages and 14,400 re-mortgages completed in April 2019, the same figures as in April 2018.
