Consumer confidence hit by Tory battle

Consumer confidence has been hit by the Tory leadership campaign and renewed fears about a no-deal Brexit.
British households grew more pessimistic this month about their job security, personal finances and the general economic outlook, a pair of key surveys showed.

A separate report found that business confidence recovered a little in June but remained below the long-term average, suggesting that the poor levels of corporate investment that have sapped growth since the EU referendum in 2016 would continue to persist.
